会社のゲート前で早朝から牛乳を売る方。インドの牛乳は２枚目の画像のようにプラスチックの袋に入って売られています。「えー、そんなの飲めるの？」という方もいらっしゃるかもしれませんが、昭和時代にはテトラパックという牛乳が給食で提供されていましたし、小分けで、形状をあまり気にせず輸送できるので便利なのかもしれません。

In India, milk is sold normally in pouch bag (plastic bag). You may be surprised, but in 30 years ago in Japan, milk was served with “Tetra Package” at school lunch which you can sea in 3rd picture. Small and flexible package may have some advantage for the delivery.
紙事情その2。芯の大きさに比べて紙の量が圧倒的に少なく、日本のトイレットペーパーの半分くらいのサイズです。ええ、当然紙質はカチコチです。キッチンペーパーか、と突っ込みたくなる硬さです。まぁ、お国柄、ローカルの方には基本的に不要なんですけどね。

インドのお弁当箱はとにかく大きい。
上段の写真は子供のシューズケースくらいあり、下の写真はイメージ的にディズニーランドのポップコーンのバケツくらいあります。日本のジャー型のお弁当箱みたいなものですが、保温機能はなさそうです。ちなみに上に書かれた番号はダッパーワーラーシステムのものです。

海外に赴任して日常生活の中で一番最初に気づくのが紙質の悪さ。そしてティッシュは高級品。インド人はFirst Classとか、Premierとか、高級なものにそういう表現を使うのですが、このPremierティッシュ、日本の道端で配られているポケットティッシュよりも硬いです。
For Japanese, it is one of the complaint a quality of the paper in abroad. We understand tissue is rather luxury item. Indian people like to use “First Class” or “Premier” for luxury service or goods, but this “Premier Tissue”’s quality is as same as the “Pocket Tissue”, we can get in the street in Japan, free of charge!

1918年、イギリス統治時代に作られたゴルフ場、テニスコート、クラッシックなクラブハウスを併設したスポーツクラブです。パー3が9ホールもあり、途中でコースがクロスところが何箇所もあるという複雑怪奇なコースです。
市内のど真ん中にあるので周りはスラムやら、高層住宅やら、野良犬がのんびりしてたりと、ネタに尽きません。

This course was founded in 1918, with traditional club house and tennis courts. This course has 9 holes of par 3, very complicated layout with several cross overs.
This club located in the middle of the city, like Central Park in NY, therefore surrounded by slam, building and stray dog (sleeping). Very unique.
存在は確認してましたが、ようやく初入店。イギリス発祥のピザチェーン店です。ピザは１枚500ルピー前後とこの国の物価にしては高級料理。しかしまぁ、お味は安定していて、インドの中では美味しいイタリアンです。キッズメニューもほぼ同じ。ベジタリアンメニューが多いイメージです。
I saw several Pizza express shop in Mumbai and today is my first time for trying. Pizza Express is a headquartered in UK. Pizza costs you around INR 500, expensive restaurant compare to normal salary here. Taste is good, kids menu is also similar to that of in UK, little more variety on vegetarian menu.
1月26日はインドの共和国記念日。3日ほど前より政府の建物がライトアップされています。
1947年にイギリスから独立した3年後の1950年のこの日、憲法が発布され共和国になりました。インドでは年間3日しか無い、国民の休日です。
そう、インドは連邦共和制国家です。

工事中の出口を示す看板。なんだかツッコミどころが沢山あります。しかし誰もこれに美意識は求めていないのも事実。このフレキシビリティーというか、用が足せばよい、いう考え方、インドっぽいですね。

年明けよりずっと動かないエスカレーター。この半年、毎月何かトラブルになっている気がする。きっと年間の稼働率、相当低いです。
This escalator has been not operated since beginning of this year. I remember every month this escalator has a trouble. How many days this operates per year?
イギリス文化の影響を受けているインドでは、二階建てバスもよく見かけます。
やや古びれてるなぁと思って調べてみると、戦後から導入され、ピークは約240台、今は120台、メンテコストや燃費の問題からあと3年くらいの寿命らしいですが、大切に大切に使われています。確かにボディのペンキは厚塗りですが、交通渋滞のひどい都市では一つの解決策でもあるんですよね。
We come across to see double decker bus as India is to some extent influenced by British culture.
Bus looks very vintage so I googled it. Double decker was installed after WW2, at the peak 240 buses were operating but now only 120. Due to maintenance cost, it assumed to be finished its operation in next 3 years. If we look at the bus very carefully, we can identify many layers of painting, meaning this bus has a long history. To cope with bad traffic in India, double decker seems one of the resolutions.
